I’m doing my happy dance today. I finally got my little Honda 55 running properly! It could probably do with a new carburetor and there are lots of details left go get it looking good. I also need a new headlight bulb, but the idle problem I was having is fixed. With the carb tuned properly it’s so easy to ride. I love it! All 220MPG of it!

Hi. I have recently acquired a C105. It’s got the high pipes and an original (optional, I think) rifle rack mounted on the front fork. It had 58 original miles on it when I got it (it’s not at something like 62 miles). It had been sitting for about 40 years when I found it, but I was able to get it running fairly well with the 40 year old gas. Amazing.
Anyhow, I’ve drained all that bad gas and changed the oil, pulled the carb and gave it a good spraying out (it looked remarkably clean in there), but I cannot get it to idle without the choke closed. It will start on the 1st or 2nd kick and idle fine with the choke shut, but died promptly the second I touch the choke lever. If i wait for it to get really hot, it will idle sporadically with the choke open, but not reliably. I was just wondering what you did to get a good idle on yours.
Also, I’m looking for a set of wheels. Both rims on mine are eaten up by rust (oddly, since it was sitting in a garage all that time), and the rear has several broken spokes. The local salvage yards (in Portland, OR) have been cleaned out. I know there’s always ebay, but I thought I’d see if you had any other bright ideas.
I can’t wait to ride it around town, though I’ll probably leave the rifle rack unoccupied.
Any tips appreciated.
Jeff
clean the low jet, use a piece of very fine wire.
